PROGRAMS

Independent Job Search Programs

1) Independent Job Search orientation and BC Benefits orientation will be provided to applicants for Income Assistance or YouthWorks, who have been referred to orientation by the Ministry of Human Resources as a condition of application.
2) Post Program Support services are provided to past participants of CMHA employment training programs.

First Step

A 10-week course in personal and job-related life skills development, designed to prepare the participants for the next step in their career plan.

P.U.G.G.

An upgrading program to assist adults with moderate learning and/or social difficulties which have disrupted their educational process.

WorkWays

This program is for recipients of Unemployment Insurance or those whose benefits have expired that are committed to finding a full-time job. The WorkWays Program is a three-week program that explores the job market. Using a team approach and team support, opportunities are provided to use networking, different job search techniques, interview skills and how to succeed.

Changing Horizons

The Changing Horizons program is based on the philosophy that battered women can break free of the abusive cycle, become more independent, improve learning skills for further training and/or employment , including skills gained through work experience/work shadowing.

Information & Referral

The program provides community information and referral services to its telephone and face-to-face clients. The counsellors are trained to make assessments and to either provide the services required or make referrals to appropriate organizations.

Volunteer Training Program

The professional staff of the Canadian Mental Health Association - Family & Community Services - and other community professionals offer a counselling training program for agency volunteers. This program includes information on basic counselling and interviewing techniques, communication skills, self awareness, victimization, drugs and alcohol, crisis intervention, suicide intervention, and information on community services. When space and time allow, other community agencies' personnel may participate in the training program.
